Trinity Women's Ice Hockey Handles Wesleyan In Outdoor Game

East Hartford, Conn. - In the Division III women's college entry of the Whalers HockeyFest played outdoors at Rentschler Field, the No. 8-ranked Trinity College Bantams extended its string of victories over the Wesleyan University Cardinals to nine with a 5-1 victory.  Trinity had beaten Wesleyan, 4-0, when the teams met Feb. 5 at Trinity.  Trinity improves to 15-3-4 overall and 8-3-3 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with its fourth consecutive victory, while the Cardinals drop to 2-18-1 overall and 0-14 in the league.

Trinity took just nine seconds to get on the board, winning opening face-off, and getting the puck ahead to junior forward Celia Colman-McGaw (Manchester, Conn.) who moved in tight and rocketed a shot past Cardinals sophomore netminder Ashleigh Corvi.  Trinity senior captains Kim Weiss(Potomac, Md.)  and Alexa Guglielmi (Rocky Hill, Conn.) assisted on the opener.  The same line combined for the Bantams' third goal at 18:26 of the second frame with Weiss doing the scoring honors, giving all three a two-point afternoon.  Leading Trinity with two goals and an assist was senior Sarah Kohn (Winchester, Mass.).  Trinity's remaining goal came from junior Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.).  Wesleyan's lone goal came on a good individual move by sophomore Kelsey Muller as she switched the puck from left side to right side after breaking in on Trinity rookie goalie Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) with one minute left in the first period, sliding the puck past her into the net to cut the gap to 2-1.

Trinity posted a 39-to-6 domination in total shots and used all three of its goalies during the final period.  Pujol had four saves while yielding the one goal in 49 minutes of play.  Freshman Kristin Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) added one save in her 6:24 on the ice and sophomore Beth Hitchcock (Glencoe, Ill.) finished up with no saves needed in 4:30 of action.  Corvi had 34 saves for Wesleyan.
