Brunswick, Maine – Senior Rachel Romanowsky
(Hampstead, N.H.) scored three goals and added three
asssts as the visiting Trinity College Bantams scored all eight of
its goals in the first half to hold off the Bowdoin College Polar
Bears, 8-7, in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this afternoon.
Trinity, ranked No. 6 in the nation, improves to 3-0 overall and
2-0 in the league, while No. 15-ranked Bowdoin drops to 2-1 overall
and 1-1 in the conference.
Trinity jumped out to a comfortable 8-1 lead to start the game,
and led 8-3 at the midway point, but Liz Clegg answered with two of
Bowdoin's four second half goals to cut the Trinity lead to
8-7 with 11:36 remaining in the game. Both offenses went
stagnant the rest of the way, as Trinity escaped danger when
Bowdoin could not capitalize on three late chances.
Trinity sophomore Megan Leonhard (Summit, N.J.)
collected two goals, three assists, and six ground balls for the
Bantams. Clegg scored four goals in the game for Bowdoin,
including one with seven seconds remaining in the first half.
Trinity sophomore Olivia Whitney (Danvers, Mass.)
made six saves for the win. Bowdoin goalkeeper Tara Connolly
made 10 saves in the second-half shutout for the Polar Bears, after
having relieved Alexandra Brown early in the first half. The
game was delayed an hour due to snow.
