score after an overtime period in New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action this
afternoon on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports
Center. The Bantams move to 5-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the
NESCAC with the tie, while Bowdoin moves to 8-4-2 overall and 6-2-2
in the league. Bowdoin had won their last three games and
last five league matches heading into the game, and had outscored
their opponents, 31-11, over their prior six games.
Trinity junior Jordan So (Toronto, Ontario) got
the scoring started 4:43 into the game to give the Bantams a 1-0
jumpstart. Bowdoin sophomore Colin Downey (East
Sandwich, Mass.) and junior Daniel Weiniger
(Warren, N.J.) answered for the Polar Bears in the opening
period with a goal apiece to give Bowdoin a 2-1 lead by the end of
the first. Trinity senior co-captain Michael DeMayo
(Seaford, N.Y.) tied the game again, 2-2, 7:22 into the
second period, but Weiniger would net his second goal of the game
to put Bowdoin back on top, 3-2. This time it was
Trinity's turn to answer with two goals to end a period, as
the Bantams took a 4-3 lead behind goals by freshman
Michael Flynn (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior
Chris Menard (Burlington, Mass.) heading into the
third frame.
Sisson marked an early power play goal less than five minutes
into the third. Bowdoin outshot Trinity 15-1 in the period,
but was unable to regain a lead, courtesy of strong goaltending by
Trinity sophomore goalkeeper Ben Coulthard (South Windsor,
Conn.). the offensive drought for both teams carried
into overtime, which would expire without a deciding
score.
It was a back-and-forth game of attacks, featuring constant
offensive pressure on both sides, as Trinity and Bowdoin combined
for a total of 74 shots. Bowdoin fired 47 of those shots, and
Coulthard tallied a season-high 43 stops, after saving 33 in last
night's 7-3 win over Colby. Bowdoin junior goaltender
Connor Shannon (Stratham, N.H.) made 14 saves off
the bench, allowing one goal in just over 35 minutes of
action. Senior goaltender Richard Nerland (Calgary,
Alb.) made 17 stops and allowed three goals in the start
for the Polar Bears.
