Box Score Jeffery Menard is Second Menard, Bantam to Score Hat Trick
This Weekend
Hartford, Conn. – Trinity junior
Jeffrey Menard (Burlington, Mass.) scored a hat
trick and collected an assist to lead the Trinity College Bantams
to a 4-3 win over the Lake Forest Foresters in men's ice
hockey action this afternoon on Williams Rink at the Koeppel
Community Sports Center. Trinity improves to 4-5 overall with
their second straight victory, while the Foresters fall to 1-11 on
the season with their ninth straight loss.
Leading 3-1 in the third period, Trinity junior Menard found
himself with the puck and Lake Forest senior goalie Marc
Stuart (Dallas, Texas) out of net. Menard took
advantage and gave the Bantams a 4-1 cushion with what would prove
to be a valuable goal, as the Foresters would not go down
quietly.
With just 1:49 on the clock, Lake Forest junior Dave
Sharpe (Windsor, Ontario) cut the Trinity lead to 4-2 when
he slipped the puck through the legs of Trinity goalkeeper
Benjamin Coulthard (South Windsor, Conn.).
Just :51 later, Sharpe faked a slap shot, then slid a wrister into
a crowd at the Trinity net where Coulthard came up with the save,
despite being screened. The puck took a bounce to Lake Forest
freshman Jason McAloon (Elk Grooves, Ill.), who
finished for his team-high sixth goal of the game, cutting the
Bantam lead to 4-3 with under a minute to play. Lake Forest
pulled their goalkeeper, but the Trinity defense locked down the
offense, playing with an extra man.
Menard is the second Bantam to record a hat trick in their last
two games. On Saturday, his twin brother Chris Menard
(Burlington, Mass.) recorded a hat trick in an 8-3 win
over Nichols, making the tandem the first twins in program history
to score hat tricks in consecutive games. The Menard brothers
share the team lead in goals, with seven apiece in nine
games. Chris Menard also recorded an assist today.
Senior co-captain Mike DeMayo (Seaford, N.Y.)
collected three assists in the game. Coulthard earned the win
in net for the Bantams, making 31 stops, and 24 in the final two
periods. Stuart finished the game with 24 saves for the
Foresters. Today's game was the final of
Trinity's out-of-league schedule, as the Bantams gear up for
NESCAC play, starting with No. 13 ranked Williams this Friday.
“We got our second semester off to a great start and we
need to carry our winning ways into NESCAC play this coming
weekend,” Head Coach Matt Greason said after the
game.
