Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Pujol
(New Canaan, Conn.) made 23 saves to lead the Trinity
College Bantams to a 3-1 win over the Hamilton College Continentals
in women's ice hockey action this afternoon on Williams Rink
at Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity improves to 7-7
overall and 3-4 in the NESCAC with their fourth straight win, while
the Continentals drop to 6-7 on the season, and 3-4 in the
league.
Hamilton got on the board early in the night, with a goal by
senior Kristen Pallen (Frankford, Ontario) 5:55
into the first period. Trinity responded midway through the
first when sophomore Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.)
tied the game at 1-1 with her fourth goal in the last three
games.
The Bantams found themselves in a power play opportunity early
in the second period, and took advantage when senior Payson
Sword (Princeton, N.J.) found the back of the net with a
slap shot from the blue line at the 6:29 mark, for her second goal
in as many games.
Pujol made two clutch stops in the third period to protect
Trinity's one-goal lead. The first stop came 2:30 into the
frame when junior Abby Runyon (Fairport, N.Y.)
placed the puck to the top corner of the net with a wrister, only
to meet the glove of Pujol. The sophomore made another key
stop with 5:58 to play, again making a standout glove save after an
accurate shot by junior Katie Zimmerman (Plymouth,
Mich.) nearly tied the game. Moments later, with
5:24 showing on the clock, sophomore Lauren Glynn
(Arlington, Mass.) gave the Bantams a 3-1 lead, scoring a
key insurance goal on a pass from first-year Lucy Robinson
(Toronto, Ontario), who recorded two assists in the
game.
Junior Rebecca Hazlett (Grosse Point Park,
Mich.) made 20 saves for the Continentals, who had won
their previous two matches heading into tonight's
contest.
