Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Alyssa DiMaio
(Morristown, N.J.) scored two goals and senior goalie
Madeline Brooks (Clayton, Mo.) earned her fourth
shutout of the year to lead the No.2 Middlebury College Panthers to
a 4-0 win over the No. 13 Trinity College Bantams in New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action
today on Robin Sheppard Field. Trinity drops to 9-2 with its
first loss in four games, while the Panthers improve to 12-0 on the
season.
Middlebury wasted no time taking a lead, as junior
Katherine Theiss (Wilmette, Ill.) scored 2:15
seconds into the game to give the Panthers all the offense they
would end up needing. DiMaio scored her first goal of the
afternoon five minutes later, putting Trinity in an early
hole. The Bantams did not let up, and applied offensive
pressure in an attempt to make up ground before halftime, but
Trinity was unable to capitalize on any of their scoring chances,
which included seven first half penalty corners. Middlebury
held a 2-0 lead at the midway point.
Senior tri-captain Lauren Greer (North Hampton,
N.H.) scored an early second half goal on a penalty corner
to increase Middlebury's lead to 3-0, and DiMaio buried any
comeback hopes that Trinity may have had with Middlebury's
fourth goal, and her second of the game, at the 60-minute mark.
Brooks made three stops to improve to 12-0 in net for
Middlebury, and Trinity junior goalie Anne Marie
Scalambrino (Chicago, Ill.) also made three saves in the
contest, all in the first half. Middlebury held a slight edge
in shots in the game, 9-6, while Trinity took nine penalty corners,
compared to Middlebury's two.
