Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Rookie goalie Greg Hussey
(Medford, Mass.) made 41 saves to lead the Becker College
Hawks to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Trinity College Bantams in
men's ice hockey action this evening at Williams Rink in the
Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity falls to 5-3-1 with
its second straight loss, while Becker moves to 5-6 on the
season.
Senior Don Kane (Staten Island, N.Y.) found
himself in a one-on-one opportunity early in the opening period,
and found an opening through the five-hole for the game's
first goal. Becker controlled the first period, outshooting
Trinity, 13-11.
Trinity was aggressive on the offensive end in the second
period, outshooting their opponent 15-7, but Hussey saved the
Becker lead with a key glove save on a point-blank shot by Trinity,
and picked up another key diving stop in the period. The
Becker offense fed off the momentum and junior Korby
Anderson (Owantonna, Minn.) put the Hawks up 2-0 in the
period.
Trinity again outshot their opponent 15-7 in the third, but
Hussey continued to frustrate the Bantam offense. With a
power play advantage and 10:38 remaining in the game, Trinity
senior tri-captain forward Chris Menard (Burlington,
Mass.) earned a breakaway and made a nifty stick move, but
Hussey was there to block the backhanded shot, extinguishing the
Bantams bid to get hot in the period. Becker senior
Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) put
the game out of reach for Trinity, scoring with just 3:31 showing
on the clock.
Hussey's 41 saves give him his first career shutout, while
Trinity junior goalie Benjamin Coulthard (South Windsor,
Conn.) made 24 saves in the losing effort. Trinity,
2-0-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC), begins a stretch of league matches, starting with
Williams this Fri., Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Hartford.
