Connecticut College
Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams raced to a
10-3 advantage at halftime and closed out the visiting Connecticut
College Camels, 14-4, in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this evening on
Sheppard Field. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the nation, improves
to 6-0 with its 20th consecutive regular-season victory, while the
Camels fall to 3-4 with their first loss in four games.
With the game tied at 1-1 following goals by Trinity senior
co-captain midfielder Liz Bruno (Andover, Mass.)
and Camel junior tri-captain attacker Libby Nichols
(Baltimore, Md.) after eight minutes of play,. Trinity
rattled off three unanswered tallies over the seven minutes for a
4-1 lead at the 16:50 mark. Connecticut College senior
tri-captain midfielder Katelyn Driscoll (Peabody,
Mass.) cut the Trinity led in half with 15:36 on the
clock, but Bantam junior attacker Hadley Duncan (Rye,
N.Y.) scored back-to-back unassisted goals and Bruno added
an man-up tally to push the Bantam advantage back up to 7-2 with
4:36 left before the break. Camel sophomore attacker
Lowell Abbott (Manchester, Mass.) scored on a free
position just over a minute later, but Trinity answered with six
straight scores over nearly a 20-minute span to put the game out of
reach.
Trinity more than doubled the Camel shot output with a 31-15
advantage and held a 20-to-11 edge on ground balls, while forcing
20 Connecticut College turnovers. Duncan led all scorers with
four goals, while senior attacker Caite Irvine (Westwood,
Mass.) notched three goals and one assist, and sophomore
attacker Shea Kusiak (Longmeadow, Mass.) added two
goals and one assist. Junior Olivia Whitney (Danvers,
Mass.) and rookie Bridget Kitchen (North Andover,
Mass.) made three saves apiece in the Bantam cage, while
junior midfielder Megan Leonhard (Summit, N.J.)
recorded team-highs of six ground balls, four draw controls, and
four caused turnovers but did not score a goal for the first time
in 17 games. Four different Camels scored goals, while junior
goalie Kelsey Burke (Atlanta, Ga.) had seven
saves, and junior midfielder Caroline Corbett (Norwood,
Mass.) registered three ground balls, three draw controls,
and a game-high five caused turnovers for Connecticut College.
