Box Score Clinton, N.Y. - Trinity College sophomore forward Jackson Brewer (Newton, Mass.) broke a scoreless tie with 80 seconds remaining in the contest and the Bantams defeated the Hamilton College Continentals, 1-0, at Russell Sage Rink in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) game this evening. Trinity ups its season record to 9-4-3 overall and 6-2-3 in the NESCAC with its third straight win, while Hamilton drops to 5-9-3 overall and 3-6-2 in the league.
Trinity's goal came when junior forward Will Gray (Wellesley, Mass.) intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and skated to the left face-off circle. Gray sent a pass to senior captain forward Zachary Lombardi (Locust Valley, N.Y.) who dumped the puck to Brewer near the right post for the score. Junior Ben Coulthard (South Windsor, Conn.) made 24 saves in his third shutout of the year. Hamilton called a time out and pulled its goalie with 70 seconds left to play. The Continentals could only get one shot on goal before time expired. Coulthard had a big third period, making 11 saves in the final 20 minutes.Coulthard leads all of Division III with a .947 save percentage. Joe Quattrocchi stopped 29 shots for the Continentals.
It was a defensive battle to begin the contest as neither team registered a goal in the first period. The Bantams had three power play opportunities, but could not capitalize. With 4:02 left in the period, Pat Curtis was open in front of the net with the puck, but Coulthard turned the shot away. Moments later, Drew Jelinek received a pass near center ice along the right boards and went one-on-one with a Trinity defender. He got a shot off, but Coulthard made the save.
Trinity had their first good look 3:20 into the second period. Sophomore blueliner Michael Flynn (Cheshire, Conn.) took a shot from outside the crease on the right side, but Quattrocchi made the stop for one of his 16 saves in the period. With just over a minute to go, Anthony Ruberto wound up with a loose puck right in front of the goal, but was denied from short range. Less than five minutes into the third period Quattrocchi made a nice glove save on senior captain forward Chris Menard's (Burlington, Mass.) open look from the right face-off circle. Midway through the period Evan Haney came away with the puck following a scramble in front of the Trinity net, but his shot was off target. The Continentals tried to take the lead again with 7:20 left, but Curtis' rebound sailed wide.
