Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Junior forward Jackson Brewer (Newton,
Mass.) scored the go-ahead and game-winning goals while adding a
pair of assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams a 6-3 win over
the visiting Salve Regina University in men's ice hockey
action this afternoon on Williams Rink at the Koeppel Community
Sports Center. Trinity improves to 4-1 with its second
victory in a row, while the Seahawks drop to 6-2 with their first
loss in four games.
With the score knotted at 2-2 in the second period, Trinity
sophomore forward Michael Hawkrigg (Toronto, Ontario) stole the
puck from a Salve Regina defenseman and quickly passed from the
right wing to Brewer for the second of his four assists to give
Trinity the lead for good 7:27 in to the frame. Brewer scored
again 2:09 later on feeds by Hawkrigg and first-year forward Ryan
Cole (Anchorage, Alaska) for what proved to be the
game-winner. Salve Regina junior forward John Scorcia
(Hudson, Fla.) pulled the visitors within one with a short-handed
tally with 7:27 left before the final break, but Trinity rookie
forward Sean Orlando (Ivyland, Pa.) answered with a power-play goal
from Brewer and Cole just 2:12 later. The Bantams nearly
pulled further ahead late in the second, but Seahawk junior
goaltender Jake Williams (Montreal, Quebec) stopped Cole with two
quick saves on successive shots. Orlando added his second
power-play goal of the day 12:38 into the final stanza to account
for a 6-3 final score.
Trinity sophomore forward Elie Vered (Ottawa, Ontario) opened
the scoring with 5:23 remaining in the opening period with a
power-play conversion, but sophomore forward Cameron Gaudet
(Burlington, Mass.) answered with a Salve Regina power-play
conversion with 1:07 on the clock. Cole scored from Brewer
and Hawkrigg just 40 seconds after that for a 2-1 Trinity advantage
at the first intermission. Williams dropped to the ice and
saved a shot by Hawkrigg with his skate in the early moments of the
second period, and Seahawk junior forward Michael Naso
(Londonderry, N.H.) wristed in a game-tying goal from the right
wing 5:53 into the second before Trinity scored four of the
game's final five goals.
Cole finished with three points on a goal and two assists, while
sophomore Nathaniel Heilbron (West Vancouver, British Columbia)
made his season debut in the Bantam net with 23 saves.
Williams had 42 stops and Naso totaled a goal and an assist for the
Seahawks, who were penalized 11 times for 30 minutes. Trinity
totaled just eight penalty minutes and scored on three of its nine
power plays.
