Trinity Women's Hockey Can't Cool Red Hot Saint Anselm's

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. - Rookies Alexandra Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.) and Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) scored two goals apiece to lead the Saint Anselm College Hawks to a 6-3 win over the Trinity College Bantams in women's ice hockey action this afternoon on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Trinity falls to 2-3-2 overall, while St. Anselm's moves to 9-1 with their sixth straight win.

The Hawks wasted no time establishing a lead, as first-year Alison Butler (Danvers, Mass.) found the back of the net just 1:51 into the game.  Starzyk followed Butler's lead by adding a second Hawks goal less than seven minutes later.   Trinity quickly responded with a goal by junior Lily Gacicia (Milton, Mass.) to cut the Hawks lead to 2-1 midway through the opening frame.  The score remained 2-1 until the first intermission.

The teams played a very evenly contested second period, and Trinity stayed close thanks to some key saves by senior goalie Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.), including a glove side save on a point blank slap shot by St. Anselm's senior Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) midway through the period.  Trinity had chances to tie the game in the period, but with 10.6 seconds on the clock, Foss found a wide open junior Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.), who put the Hawks up 3-1 on a nifty one-timer.

The period ending goal did not seem to deflate Trinity in the action-packed third, as first-year Andi Nicholson (Grafton, Mass.) scored just :13 seconds in to bring the Bantams back within a goal, 3-2.  Less than two minutes later, Quinn answered, giving the Hawks a 4-2 lead.  Twenty-four seconds later, the Bantams responded again with a goal by senior co-captain Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, Minn.).  Heading into the seventh minute of the third, Quinn scored her second goal of the evening to give the Hawks a 5-3 lead, which left Trinity scrapping the remainder of the way.  Another goal by Starzyk, with just 1:23 to play, iced the win for the Hawks, who have outscored their opponents, 22-10, in their last six games, and 36-18 on the year.

St. Anselm's outshot Trinity 35-16 in the contest, including a 15-5 edge in the third.  Junior Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) made 13 saves for her sixth win in seven starts, while Maxwell finished the game with 29 saves in net for the Bantams.
