Brewer Hat Trick Leads Trinity Men's Hockey over Colby

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Jackson Brewer (Newtown, Mass.) netted a hat trick to lead the Trinity College Bantams over the visiting Colby College Mules in New England Small College Athletics Conference (NESCAC) action this afternoon on Williams Rink at the Koeppel Community Sports Center. The Bantams have won six of their last seven games, all against NESCAC opponents, and improve to 12-5-3 overall and 9-3-3 in the league.  Colby, fresh off an overtime 3-3 tie with No. 10 Amherst, drops to 4-14-3 overall and 2-11-2 in the league.    The game was originally scheduled for Friday night, before a large scale snowstorm in the northeast shifted plans for both teams.

"This was a difficult weekend to stay focused with the storm and the constant changing of game times," Head Coach Matt Greason said after the game.  "However, we stayed focused on our task and earned two points over a very well coached team."

It was a relatively slow start to a high scoring game, as the first period featured just one of nine goals scored in the game.  The puck found its way up and down the ice in the opening frame, as the Bantams and Mules exchanged 12 shots apiece.  Brewer broke the stalemate 7:45 into the game with his first of three goals, giving Trinity a 1-0 head start.

Action picked up in the second period and third periods, as the Bantams tallied three goals in each frame, while the Mules scored a goal in each period.  Brewer scored a goal in all three periods - his 7th, 8th, 9th goals of the year, giving him a team-best 17 points on the year.  Freshman John Hawkrigg (Toronto, Ontario) netted two goals in the game, including the game-winner.  Brewer and Hawkrigg each tallied an assist in the game, while Trinity senior tri-captain Zach Lombardi (Locust Valley, N.Y) picked up three helpers in the game.  Coly senior Cory McGrath (Yarmouthport, Mass.) and junior Jack Bartlett (Lynn, Mass.) scored a goal apiece for the Mules.

Junior goalie Benjamin Coulthard (South Windsor, Conn.) had another strong performance in net for the Bantams, racking up 32 saves and allowing just two goals.  [Watch one of Coulthard's saves and subscribe to BantamSports on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sW5-7gq6ZNM&feature=youtu.be] The Bantams defense has allowed more than two goals in just six of 20 games this season.  Sophomore Sam Parker (Cambridge, Mass.) finished with 37 stops in net for the Mules.

Trinity wore camoflauge uniforms in honor of wounded service members.  The team held a raffle at the rink today, and had raised over $2,500 before the start of the game.  For moer information, or to make a donation, visit: https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/group-fundraising/BantamHockey
