Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Fresh off a pair of wins against No. 7 Bowdoin last weekend, Trinity women's hockey was stifled by a strong Amherst team in a 5-1 loss to the Lord Jeffs, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action this afternoon on Williams Rink at the Koeppel Community Sports Center. The Bantams, who were 8-1-1 in their last ten games heading into today, drop to 11-6-4 overall and 6-4-3 in the league. Amherst jumps to 11-8-1 overall and 9-3-1 in the NESCAC.
Amherst was running on all cylinders from the start, outshooting Trinity 12-4 in the opening period, and keeping the pressure on in the second with an 18-7 shot advantage. Amherst sophomores Emily Flom (Gross Point Farms, Mi.) and Anne Gillard (Calgary, Alberta) tallied a goal apiece in the opening two frames, and Trinity was unable to make back ground.
The Bantams best opportunity came in the final two minutes of the second period. Junior Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) came up with a save on a nifty backhander by Amherst rookie Erin Martin (Canton, Mass.), setting up Trinity junior Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, Minn.) for a one-on-one opportunity on the other end. Amherst junior goalie Kerri Stuart (Tewksbury, Mass.) answered Pujol's save with a similar stop to preserve the 2-0 Amherst lead.

Amherst added a third goal in the final period, and the Bantams quickly responded, but could not get closer. Sophomore Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) got a clean look with less than a minute to go, but another highlight save by Stuart set up Amherst rookie Eileen Harris (Winnetka, Ill.) for an empty-netter on the other end to put the Lord Jeffs up, 4-1. Amherst sophomore Tori Salmon (Batavia, N.Y.) added a goal with 12 seconds remaining to increase Amherst's lead to 5-1.
Amherst outshot Trinity, 42-19, and won the faceoff battle as well, by a count of 27-19. Pujol finished the game with 33 stops for Trinity, allowing three goals. Trinity senior goalkeeper Beth Hitchcock (Glencoe, Ill.) made four saves and allowed one goal in six minutes of action on senior night. Stuart finished with 18 saves in net for the Lord Jeffs.
