The Amherst offense was impressive early, peppering Trinity junior goalie Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) with 16 shots in the opening period. Pujol made several stops on shots from close to keep the game scoreless, including two on a backhand and a quick wrister by Lord Jeff junior forward Courtney Baranek (West Babylon, N.Y.) in the middle of the first period, but Amherst rookie Erin Martin (Canton, Mass.) stole the puck in the Trinity zone and shot quickly past Pujol for a 1-0 Lord Jeff lead with 7:23 on the clock. Lloyd gave the visitors a 2-0 advantage with a low slapper from just above the left face-off circle that caromed off a Bantam skate past Pujol at 17:42 of the first.
Amherst added a third goal when Lloyd sent the puck waist high into traffic in front of the crease and it found its way by Pujol glove side for a power-play tally with 1:09 left in the second period. The Trinity offense came alive in the third frame, as senior captain forward Chelsea Campbell (Surrey, British Columbia) was denied by Stuart on a backhand from close early and rookie forward Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.) wove her way through the Lord Jeff defense and shot past the goalie only to watch the puck bounce twice off the iron and drop back into play. The Lord Jeff defense kept Trinity at bay the rest of the way, and two late Bantam penalties severely derailed any comeback effort. Pujol finished with 33 saves, while five different Lord Jeffs recorded assists. Neither team was whistled for a penalty in the first 38 minutes, and Amherst finished with a 36-16 shot advantage.
