Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Trinity wrapped up its regular season action in women's ice hockey by defeating homestanding Wesleyan, 5-2, today to sweep the season series after taking a 4-0 decision last night in Hartford. Having clinched a first-round NESCAC tournament home game previously as the fourth seed, the Bantams will host Conn. College in a playoff game Sat., Feb. 23. Conn. College finished 7-8-1 in league play and secured the fifth spot by winning its season finale today over Williams.
Junior Lauren Glynn scored twice for Trinity against Wesleyan, doubling her season production to four. Getting a goal and an assist to take the team regular-season scoring crown with 17 points was sophomore Lucy Robinson. Glynn gave Trinity the lead for good, scoring at 5:04 of the first period from in close as she knocked the puck in off Wesleyan senior goalie Ashleigh Corvi. Senior Captain Britney Ryan scored her second goal of the season, coming on the power play at 10:43, for a 2-0 Bantam edge. She received a pass from the left circle to the inner edge of the right circle and popped a wrist shot inside the right post.
Wesleyan cut the lead in half when top scorer sophomore Jordan Schildhaus fired from a sharp angle on the right. Junior keeper Kristen Maxwell slowed the puck down but it trickled just over the line at 14:22 of the first period. Schildhaus, who also assisted on the Cardinals' second goal, finished the season with 11 goals and six assists for 17 points.
The teams traded goals in the second period as sophomore Lauren Fitzgerald netted her fifth of the year at 3:09, poking in the puck from the left side during a pileup in front of the Cardinal net to make it a 3-1 game. Just 2:07 later, Wesleyan again got within a goal on a rising slapper from the left circle by freshman Laura Mead for her third goal of the campaign.
Two Bantam goals in the final period, one each by Glynn and Robinson, finished off the Trinity win. Glynn scored the second power-play goal of the game for the Bantams, pushing home a rebound on the right side at 4:09 while Robinson came through with a strong individual rush past two Cardinal defenders and lifted a shot over Corvi at 8:05.
Shots in the contest were even at 24-24 after Trinity held a 36-13 margin the night before. Wesleyan did not qualify for the post-season.
