Box Score

ANDOVER, Mass – The Trinity College men's hockey team converted on four power plays goals to knock off fourth-ranked Bowdoin, 10-5, in a rescheduled game played at the Brooks School Monday evening in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action.  Trinity wraps up their regular campaign at 14-6-3  (11-4-3 NESCAC) and clinch the third seed and a home game for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament.  The Polar Bears, who clinched the NESCAC's top seed last weekend, end their regular season with a mark of 19-3-2 (13-3-1 NESCAC).

"We put forth a great effort tonight," Head Coach Matt Greason said.  "It was nice to see our power play convert its chances.  We also played tough defensively against an explosive Bowdoin team."

Trinity and Bowdoin traded power play goals in the opening frame. Trinity senior tri-captain Zachary Lombardi scored at 6:58 for the Bantams, while Timothy McGarry scored with under five minutes remaining to even the score at 1-1. Trinity answered quickly with a pair of goals, the first coming just 36 seconds after McGarry's and another off a power play opportunity.

Bowdoin closed within one goal, making the score 3-2, at 3:49 into the second frame.  Tim Coffey provided Bowdoin with its second goal of the night before Trinity ran away with three consecutive scores. A pair of man up goals at 6:40 and 11:05 gave the Bantams a 5-2 lead, before John Hawkrigg added another under two minutes later. Ollie Koo provided some offense with a goal as the final second ticked off the clock.

Trinity carried its 6-3 lead into the final period, but wasted no time before adding another goal. The Bantams rattled off three goals over the opening five minutes to pad the score 9-3.  Bowdoin scored its only consecutive goals of the evening off the sticks of Daniel Weiniger at 5:56 and Robert Toczylowski at 7:08. Bowdoin sat within four of Trinity before Andrew Tallet tallied the final goal of evening.

The ten goal total was the highest offensive output of the season for Trinity.  The Polar Bears allowed more goals in this outing than any other game this season. Bowdoin outshot Trinity 47-44, but the Bantams went 4-5 on the power play.

All three Bowdoin goalies saw time in net with Max Fenkell recording 22 saves, Steve Messina stopping 10, and Connor Shannon blocking 2. Benjamin Coulthard stopped 42 shots in his complete game performance.

Jordan So and Chris Menard had two goals and two assists each for the Bantams. Ollie Koo had a goal and two assists for Bowdoin.

Trinity will host rival Wesleyan on Saturday in the opening round with game time TBA.
Bowdoin begins its post-season play hosting Hamilton College in the quarter final round of the NESCAC Tournament on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
