Trinity Women's Lacrosse Makes It 15 Wins In A Row With Victory Over Tufts

Hartford, Conn. – Senior tri-captain midfielder Megan Leonhard (Summit, N.J.) had four goals, one assist, two ground balls and four draw controls to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 13-4 victory over the visiting Tufts University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this afternoon on Sheppard Field.  Reigning NCAA Division III Champion Trinity, ranked No. 1 in the nation, extends its winning streak to 15 games while improving to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the NESCAC.  No. 15-ranked Tufts drops to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the league.

The game was never in doubt, as Trinity led, 8-0, at halftime and, 10-0, early in the second stanza before Tufts senior co-captain attacker Kerry Eaton (Norfolk, Mass.) scored 6:40 after the break.  Leonhard scored the first goal of the game 33 seconds after the opening draw and added three more tallies over the next 20 minutes.  First-year goalie Emily Mooney (New York, N.Y.) had three first-half saves and allowed just one goal in 43:47 of play to record the win in the Bantam goal.  Trinity senior attacker Kaitlin Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa.) answered the first Tufts goal with the second of her three second-half goals, and the Bantams scored twice more before yielding three Jumbo goals in the last seven minutes.

Trinity finished with a 28-10 shot advantage and a 24-17 edge on ground balls, while forcing 34 turnovers.  Bantam junior attacker Shea Kusiak (Longmeadow, Mass.) joined Leonhard and Hildebrand as multiple-goal scorers with a pair, while senior attacker Haley Thompson (Ipswich, Mass.) added a goal and an assist.  Trinity senior defender Hillary McNamara (Milton, Mass.) and junior defender Lyndsey Shepard (Hamilton, Mass.) notched three ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece, while senior tri-captain defender Mallory Hinman (Longmeadow, Mass.) had two ground balls and three caused turnovers, and sophomore goalie Bridget Kitchen (North Andover, Mass.) finished the game with one save in 16-plus minutes.  Eaton paced the Jumbos with two goals and one assist, while junior midfielder Kate Applegate (Chadds Ford, Pa.) scooped a game-high six ground balls and caused four turnovers, and senior Tess Shapanka (Sudbury, Mass.) made 12 Tufts saves in goal.
