Box Score Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity women's soccer
team was running on all cylinders today, topping the visiting
Albertus Magnus College Falcons, 4-1, on Campus Field. The
Bantams move to 5-0 on the year, while Abertus moves to 4-3-2
overall. Trinity has outscored their opponents 15-2 this
season, already matching their win total from last season.
Trinity controlled the ball offensively for a large majority of
the first half, but was unable to capitalize off any scoring
opportunities until late in the period, despite firing off 11
shots. Within the final three minutes of first half play,
Trinity first-year Rachel Zanko (Grand Rapids,
Mich.) ripped a shopped that bounced off the cross bar to
the dismay of the home crowd, as the ball appeared to be headed out
of bounds. But Zanko and the Trinity fans got a surprise when
the ball came straight back down in front of the net and had enough
backspin to bounce off the goalkeeper and propel itself into the
Albertus net, sending the Bantams into intermission with a 1-0
lead.

The break didn't slow momentum for the Bantams, who came
out just as tenacious in the second half, posting three more goals
on 10 shots, courtesy of sophomores Kelsey Thomas
(Stonington, Conn.), Julia Leahy (Hingham,
Mass.), and Abbey Lake (Westport,
Conn.).
Midway through the second half, Albertus, who managed just four
shots in the game thanks to Trinity's staunch defensive play,
took advantage of a corner kick and snuck a shot in the corner of
the Bantam goal to break the shutout. The goal was just the
second allowed by Trinity in five games this year.
Maria Case made 11 saves for the Falcons, while Trinity sophomore
Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) made two
saves to move to 5-0 on the year.
