Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Senior tri-captain OH Hannah Brickley
(Melrose, Mass.) had 21 kills and just three errors to go with two
aces, three blocks, and 11 digs to lead the visiting Trinity
College Bantams to a 3-2 victory over the Wesleyan University
Cardinals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
volleyball action this evening. Trinity improves to 9-4
overall and 1-2 in the NESCAC with its second win in a row, while
Wesleyan drops to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the league.
In a closely-contested match, Trinity pulled out the fifth set,
15-11, after falling in the fourth set, 25-21. Trinity won
the first set, 25-20, and the third, 25-22, losing the second,
25-22. Sophomore MH Kate Giddens (Rancho Palos Verdes,
Calif.) added 15 kills and only two errors with three blocks, while
classmate Katie Stueber (Darien, Conn.) made seven blocks, and
senior tri-captain S Amy Hackett (Wallingford, Conn.) contributed
23 assists, four aces, and five digs for the Bantams. Wesleyan was
led by senior Kim Farris who had a match-high 31 kills, while
senior Kate Centofanti finished with 19 winners and 14 digs.
Trinity came back from an 8-4 deficit in the final set to claim
the victory. The Cardinals took an 8-4 lead in the deciding
set after a Centofanti kill. The Bantams took a timeout
and crawled back within one at 8-7. Farris gave the Cardinals
a 9-7 edge with a kill, but Trinity ran off four of the next five
points to take an 11-10 lead. An ace by Hackett gave the Bantams a
12-10 lead, before Farris came up big again for Wesleyan with an
ace to cut the gap to a single point. A service error on the
Cardinal serve, followed by a kill by Brickley gave the Bantams a
match point. Trinity sophomore RS Hunter Drews (Clifton Park, N.Y.)
served the deciding point for Trinity and Brickley put it away with
her 21st kill.
