Hartford, Conn. – Junior Chloe Billadeau (Chaska, Minn.) and her defense earned a shutout to lead the visiting Williams College Ephs to a 2-0 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity falls to 4-4-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the NESCAC and Williams improves to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the league.
The opening two periods each ended in similar fashion, with late goals by the Ephs heading into each intermission. With just 3:48 remaining in the opening period, Williams senior co-captain Cristina Bravi (Montreal, Quebec) broke the scoreless tie, which was all the offense Williams needed on the night.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Ephs for the majority of the second period, until Williams junior Andree Heller (Toronto, Ontario) gave her team a 2-0 lead, with a goal toward the end of the frame, with 4:03 showing on the clock. Trinity senior goalie Kristen Maxwell (Westminster, Conn.) made 20 saves in the second period to keep the Bantams within range of a comeback, but the Bantams couldn't muster any offense against Billadeau.
Trinity senior Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) made a strong bid to put the Bantams on the board with 1:15 remaining in the game, with a wrap-around shot off a rebound, but Billadeau deflected the puck in the air and made a glove save to end Trinity's best scoring chance. Billadeau finished the game with 22 saves. Maxwell made 41 stops in net for the Bantams.
The teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon, in a 4 p.m. game at the Koeppel Center. The game will be viewable on www.trincoll.edu/livevideo.
