Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Some timely scoring and clutch saves by senior goalie Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) resulted in a 3-2 win for the Trinity College Bantams over the visiting Hamilton College Continentals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity improves to 6-5-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the NESCAC with their second straight win and Hamilton drops to 5-7-2 overall and 0-5-2 in the league.
The teams exchanged two goals in the opening two periods before senior Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) scored to break a 2-2 tie early in the third period. Hamilton had opportunities to tie the game as the period progressed, but key stops by Pujol kept Hamilton out of the net in the third. Hamilton sophomore Megan Fitzgerald (Great Falls, Va.) threatened to give the Continentals the lead early in the third on a power play, but a Pujol kick save kept the game tied. Later in the period, after Trinity had taken the lead, Pujol protected the Trinity advantage with a noteworthy save on a shot by Hamilton's leading scorer, first-year Katie Parkman (Stratford, Ontario).
Trinity had opened the game with a quick strike by Trinity's leading scorer, sophomore Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.). The teams will square off again tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Koeppel Community Sports Center at Trinity College.
