Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity women's ice hockey
team picked up a tidy 3-1 win over the visiting Hamilton College
Continentals in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this afternoon on Williams
Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity improves
to 7-5-3 overall and 3-4-1 in the NESCAC with their third straight
win and Hamilton drops to 5-8-2 overall and 0-6-2 in the
league.
It was déjà vu for the Trinity offense, which
started the night identically to last night's game in the
series opener, as Trinity's leading scorer, sophomore
Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.) got the Bantams out to
a quick start, with a goal just 1:06 into the game.
Hamilton's leading scorer, first-year Katie Parkman
(Stratford, Ontario), kept pace with Tani, tying the game
at 1-1 with her second goal in as many nights.
With the score tied, rookie Andi Nicholson (Grafton,
Mass.) netted the first goal of her collegiate career to
give the Bantams a 2-1 edge, and all the offense they would need in
the game. Trinity added an insurance score with less than
three minutes to play in the second when junior Lauren
Fitzgerald (Milton, Mass.) netted her fourth goal of the
season, and her third in the last three games. Like
yesterday, Hamilton's offense applied pressure in the third
period, but Trinity senior goalie Kristen Maxwell
(Nashville, Tenn.) stopped 12 of 12 shots in the frame to
keep the Hamilton offense at bay.
Maxwell finished the game with 21 saves, while Hamilton junior
goaltender Sarah Schuchardt (Verona, Wisc.) made
18 saves in net for the Continentals.
Trinity will host Div. 1 Sacred Heart University, this Tues.,
Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be webcast live at www.trincoll.edu/livevideo.
