Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore forward Laura Nee (Duxbury, Mass.) scored a goal and set up another as the Trinity College women's soccer team defeated visiting Tufts, 3-0, on Sunday in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action at Campus Field. The Bantams won their second straight league game to improve to 6-4-1 on the year and 2-4-1 in conference play, while the Jumbos dropped their second league contest in a row to fall to 6-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in conference tilts.
Trinity junior goalkeeper Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) continued her strong play in NESCAC games turning aside both shots she faced to record her fifth shutout of the season. On the opposite end, sophomore Eileen McGarry (Bolton, Mass.) made four saves in a losing effort for Tufts.
Nee set up the first score of the game, coming down the right side of the field and playing a ball into the box that ended up on the foot of Karyn Barrett (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) who netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The tally was Barrett's third game-winning goal of 2014 and it was all the Bantams would need as DiFiori and the Trinity defense played well.
A little over a minute after Barret's marker, Nee made nice move past a Tufts defender and fired a shot that beat a diving McGarry that found the back of the net. Nee's goal was her sixth of the season and would be the final score of the first half as Trinity entered halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
In the second half, Trinity senior tri-captain Elisa Dolan (Bethesda, Md.) scored an insurance goal in the 47th minute. The goal closed out the scoring in the contest and was Dolan's fourth point of the weekend after picking up a pair of assists in the Bantams 2-1 victory versus Middlebury on Saturday.
The Bantams held a 16-9 advantage in shots and Trinity took two corner kicks to the Jumbos four.
Trinity returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15, with a non-conference game versus in-state rival Eastern Connecticut State at 4:00 p.m.
