made 14 saves and four different Camels scored goals, as visiting
Connecticut College blanked the Trinity College Bantams, 4-0, in
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's
soccer action this afternoon. Trinity, playing in its final
home game of the season, falls to 7-6-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the
NESCAC, while the Camels, ranked No. 6 in New England, improves to
12-2 overall and 7-2 in the league with their second victory in a
row.
Camel senior co-captain midfielder Astrid Kempainen started the
the scoring in the 13th minute on a penalty kick, and rookie
Caroline Kelleher gave the visitors a 2-0 lead on an unassisted
tally in the 35th minute. Trinity had a 10-0 advantage
shooting at halftime, including two on goal apiece by sophomores
Laura Nee (Duxbury, Mass.) and Sheena Landy (Durham, Conn.), but
Montalvo's eight saves before the break kept Trinity off the
board. Freshman forward Michelle Medina added a third
Connecticut College marker just 2:31 into the second stanza, and
Camel junior Chelsea Preston rounded out the scoring in the 83rd
minute. Trinity junior goalkeeper Monica DiFiori (Manhattan
Beach, Calif.) finished with seven saves, while Nee and sophomore
midfielder Kendra Lena (Madison, Conn.) totaled four shots apiece
for the Bantams.
Trinity closes out the regular season with a NESCAC road game at
Amherst on Tuesday, Oct. 28, with their postseason hopes still
alive.
