Box Score 2 Northampton, Mass. – The Trinity College volleyball team split its two matches on Saturday, falling to Williams, 3-0, before defeating Bridgewater State, 3-1, on the final day of the Hall of Fame Invitational at Scott Gymnasium on Smith College's campus. With the win against the Bears, the Bantams enter the final weekend of the regular season with a 12-10 overall record.
In the opener versus the Ephs, Trinity fell, 25-21, 25-10 and 25-16. Offensively, the Bantams were led by junior tri-captains Kate Giddens (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Hunter Drews (Clifton Park, N.Y.) who each registered eight kills. Junior setter Gina Buzzelli (Cheshire, Conn.) had 11 assists for Trinity in a losing effort. On the defensive end, Drews added eight digs and one block.
In the finale against Bridgewater State, the Bantams rallied to win, 23-25, 25-13, 25-9 and 25-18, to snap a six-game losing streak. Giddens paced the offensive attack with a team-leading 16 kills, while first-year outside hitter Anne Hay (New York, N.Y.) tied a career-high with seven kills of her own. Buzzelli did a good job distributing the ball against the Bears as she finished with 28 assists. Defensively, senior tri-captain Barbara Massa (Old Lyme, Conn.), junior middle hitter (Katie Stueber (Darien, Conn.) and first-year middle hitter Susannah Matthai (Baltimore, Md.) all had three blocks apiece. Giddens represented the Bantams on the all-tournament team.
Trinity closes out the regular season with a home New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contest versus Bates on Saturday, Nov. 1. The game is slated to get underway at 2:00 p.m. as the Bantams look to clinch a spot in the upcoming NESCAC Championship Tournament.
