Amherst, Mass. – Senior co-captain Sophie Doering (Darien, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal off a penalty corner in the second half to lead the Trinity College field hockey team past No. 7 Amherst, 2-1, on Wednesday evening in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action at Gooding Field. The Bantams won their fifth straight game to end the regular season with a 12-3 overall record and a 8-2 mark in league play, while the loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Lord Jeffs who enter the postseason 12-3 on the year and 7-3 in conference tilts. Trinity will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming NESCAC Championship Tournament and Amherst will be fourth seed.

Trinity junior goalkeeper Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.) turned aside 10 shots to earn the victory, while Emily Horwitz made 14 saves in a losing effort for Amherst.

Bantams junior forward Nikki Rivera (Rockaway, N.J.) opened the scoring just over 16 minutes into play as first-year Brenna Hobin (Madison, Conn.) played the ball ahead to Rivera who beat Horwitz for her fifth tally of the season. Hobin's assist was her third of the year as she finished the regular season with 21 points, which ranked second on the team. Following Rivera's tally, Amherst had a pair of chances, but Fitzpatrick stood her ground in the cage to keep to the Trinity lead at one. Late in the first half, Trinity first-year forward Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) had a one-on-one opportunity and Horwitz stopped the shot to keep it a one-goal game as Trinity entered halftime with a 1-0 edge.

Early in the second half, Amherst tied the game at one as Katie Paolano scored and Mary Grace Cronin picked up the assist. Five minutes after Paolano's game-tying goal, Doering scored off a penalty corner as junior defender Elizabeth Caporale (Glastonbury, Conn.) registered her seventh assist of the season.

Trinity held a slight an 18-13 advantage in shots and the Bantams took 14 penalty corners to the Lord Jeffs seven.
