Brunswick, Maine – First-year forward Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) scored the game winner a little over three and a half minutes into overtime to lead the Trinity College field hockey team past No. 2 and defending National Champion Bowdoin, 1-0, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action on Saturday at Ryan Field. With the victory, the Bantams avenged a 6-1 defeat to the Polar Bears in the 2013 NESCAC Quarterfinals and improved to 7-2 on the year and 4-1 in conference play, while Bowdoin fell to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in league tilts.

The win was the fifth straight for Trinity and snapped a nine-game winning streak for Bowdoin. After back-to-back losses in the second week of the season, the Bantams have turned it on offensively and defensively, winning five games and outscoring the opposition, 15-5.

Trinity junior goalkeeper Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.) made a season-high 14 saves to pick up her fourth shutout of the season and her seventh win. On the opposite end, Hannah Gartner turned aside six shots in a losing effort for the Polar Bears.

Three minutes and 39 seconds into overtime, Finn netted her team and conference-leading 15 goal of the year. The unassisted tally was the contests lone goal and her fourth career game-winning goal. In five league games this season, Finn has six goals and three assists.

Trinity returns to action next weekend, Oct. 11-12, with a pair of home conference matches against Middlebury and Tufts. The contest with the Panthers is set for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and the tilt with the Jumbos is slated to get underway Sunday at noon.
