Box Score

New London, Conn. - Senior Rebecca Raymond (Lowell, Mass.) contributed one goal and one assist to lead the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory against visiting Trinity College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Quarterfinal Game on Freeman Field at Tempel Green this afternoon.

The No. 3-seeded Camels improved their record to 14-2. They will take on No. 2-seeded Bowdoin College in a NESCAC Semifinal contest hosted by Williams College next Saturday in Williamstown, Mass.  The No. 6-seeded Bantams closed out their season with a winning record of 8-7-1 after starting the season at 0-4-1 in conference action.

Trinity had the first scoring chance of the day. Playing with a wind that fluctuated between 15-20 miles per hour in a driving rain, the visitors penetrated the Camel defense in the second minute of action.  Sophomore Laura Nee (Duxbury, Mass.) took a shot from the six-yard line but Connecticut College sophomore keeper Bryanna Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was able to make the save for hosts.  In the eighth minute of play, the Camels broke through the Bantam defense. Sophomore Michelle Medina (Hartford, Conn.) buried her team-leading eighth goal of the season with a 20-yard blast from the left side of the box that found some open netting inside the near post.  The Camels held a 7-to-5 advantage on shots in the first stanza to carry the one goal lead into the break.

In the second half, Connecticut College took control of the contest, holding a decisive 11-to-1 edge in shots.  In the 59th minute of play, the Camels cashed in one of their five corners. Raymond unloaded with a cross from the left cone and Amanda Onofrio (Greenwich, Conn.) elevated to meet the ball for a header that landed into the upper right portion of the goal to make it a 2-0 game.  The Camels tacked on their third goal in the 73rd minute of play on another set piece. Raymond one-timed a ball inside the left post for the Connecticut College goal to make it a 3-0 contest.  Senior Astrid Kempainen (Chazy, N.Y.) distributed her league leading ninth assist of the season with the deliverance of the corner kick.

Montalvo finished with four saves en route to her league-leading 10th shutout of the season. Junior goalie Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) contributed with five stops for the Bantams.  Connecticut College held an 18-to-6 edge in shots while enjoying a 10-to-3 advantage in corner kicks.
