Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Senior forward Emily Fluke (Bourne, Mass.) had two goals and three assists to lead the visiting Middlebury College Panthers to a 7-2 victory over the Trinity College Bantams this afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity falls to 1-2-1 overall and in the NESCAC, having beaten the Panthers, 4-3, last evening in the opener of the two-game series, while Middlebury improves to 3-1 overall and in the league.
Middlebury scored the first three goals in the opening 12:12 of the game, and outshot the Bantams, 45-21, while converting on two of its five power plays. Fluke started the 3-0 run with a goal from Jane Freda (Hingham, Mass.) and Laura McConney (Collegeville, Pa.) 3:33 into the contest, and assisted freshman Jessica Young (Mission Hills, Kansas) on the second tally 9:08 into the game. After the third Panther goal by Katie Mandigo (Cornwall, Vt.), Trinity senior forward Lauren Fitzgerald (Milton, Mass.) scored from in front of the crease after a nice pass from the right by junior forward Shannon Farrell (Kennebunk, Maine).
In the second stanza, Maddie Winslow (Manchester, Vt.) scored just 48 seconds after the start of play, and Fluke added her second goal of the contest midway through the period. Bantam junior forward Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.) scored on a breakaway from classmate Cheeky Herr (Princeton, N.J.) with 6:44 remaining before the second intermission, but Fluke and Young provided helpers on the sixth Panther goal of the game by Janka Hlinka (Stratford, Conn.) with 1:24 on the clock. Fluke fed Young on the game's final marker 4:23 into the third period. Trinity sophomore goalie Claudia Escue (Carbondale, Colo.) made 26 saves in 44:23, while rookie backstop Lauren Skinnion (Boxford, Mass.) impressed in her collegiate debut with stops on all 12 shots she faced. Senior Madeline Marsh (Kanata, Ontario) made 19 saves between the pipes for Middlebury.
