10-ranked Lord Jeff women's ice hockey team
defeated visiting New England Small CollegeAthletic Conference
(NESCAC) rival Trinity College, 3-1, this evening at Orr
Rink. Trinity drops to 10-7-4 overall and 5-6-2 in the NESCAC
while extending its winless streak to three games. The Jeffs

It took just 2:25 of the opening period for the Bantams to score
the first goal of the game. Senior captain forward Emily Kleidon
(Oakdale, Minn.) shot from the center of the ice and the puck
redirected off the stick of a Jeff defender and under the
outstretched pads of Amherst netminder Yuna Evans to give Trinity
an early 1-0 advantage.
The Bantams continued to apply the pressure offensively during
the first frame but Evans held strong between the posts, stopping
several strong opportunities from the visiting team. Amherst put
together a solid scoring chance in the closing minutes of the
period when Erin Martin skated past the a Trinity defender,
but was stopped by Bantam senior goalie Kristen Maxwell (Nashville,
Tenn.).
Amherst evened the score in the second period. After a
collision in front of the net, Salmon took advantage of
Maxwell's obstructed view and sent the shot through the
five-hole in just 1:10 into the frame. Several minutes later,
Amherst gained its first lead of the game when Salmon's
attempt from the right goal line bounced off Maxwell's pads
where Baranek stood waiting for the rebound at 6:01.
With just over five minutes to play in regulation, Trinity sent
several shots on net including one on an empty net with Evans out
of position, but none found their way over the line. Shortly after,
Trinity successfully killed a penalty then pulled Maxwell with 1:04
left, to no avail. Salmon found the empty net for her second of the
day and put the game out of reach. Evans stopped
31 shots and Maxwell recorded 30 saves in net for Trinity.
Neither team could take advantage of their power-play
opportunities, finishing a combined 0-for-4.
