Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Stays Hot With Win At Colby

Waterville, Maine - The visiting Trinity College Bantams, the league leader in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), opened up a 3-0 lead and went on for a 4-2 victory over the Colby College Mules in men's ice hockey this evening at Alfond Rink.  Trinity, ranked No. 10 nationally, moves to 18-4 overall and 13-3 in the league with their fifth win in a row, while the Mules fall to 10-9-3 overall and 7-8-1 in the conference.

Sophomore forward Michael Hawkrigg (Toronto, Ontario) scored two of the first three goals for the Bantams. Trinity went up 1-0 at 6:48 of the first period when Hawkrigg scored his 17th of the season from junior forward Jackson Brewer (Newton, Mass.) and first-year forward Sean Orlando (Ivyland, Pa.). Brewer had his 28th assist and Orlando picked up his 14th.  Less than three minutes later, Trinity forward sophomore forward Joe Horak (St. Louis, Mo.) made it 2-0 with his third of the season from classmates Tim Shea (Somerset, Mass.) and Ben Hjalmarsson (Lidingo, Sweden).

After a boarding call on Colby at 1:45 of the second period, Trinity went to work quickly on the power play and scored just 15 seconds later on Hawkrigg's 18th goal. Brewer had assist number 29 and rookie forward Ryan Cole (Anchorage, Alaska)had his 24th of the year.  The Mules fought back when senior captain Nick Lanza had his 13th of the year just 2:22 after Trinity's third goal. Jack Bartlett had his team-best 18th assist and Ben Chwick dished his 14th for the Mules.

The Bantams went back up by three goals when first-year forward Brandon Cole (Anchorage, Alaska) scored his first collegiate goal at 15:10 of the second period from brother Ryan Cole.  Trinity went on another power play just 33 seconds after Brandon Cole's goal, but Lanza intercepted a pass and scored on a breakaway for a short-handed tally at 16:10.  Both goalies kept the teams off the scoreboard for the rest of the game. Sophomore Nathaniel Heilbron (West Vancouver, British Columbia) made 23 of his 31 saves in the final two periods, while Ben Csiernik received his first collegiate NESCAC start and stopped 30 shots.
