Box Score Brunswick, Maine - The Bowdoin College Polar Bears scored two
goals in the third period to down the visiting Trinity College
Bantams this evening, 2-1, in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening.
Trinity, playing on the road for the first time since November 26,
falls to 10-6-3 overall and 5-5-1 in the NESCAC with its first loss
in seven games, while Bowdoin improves to 9-8-2 overall record and
4-5-2 NESCAC in the league. The Polar Bears and Bantams
faceoff again tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
Trinity took control of the game early in the first period,
scoring 6:41 into the frame. Following several minutes of sustained
pressure in Bowdoin's defensive zone, the Bantams crashed in on the
crease. Sophomore forward Brooke Heron (South Salem, N.Y.) sent a
feed to classmate Cheeky Herr (Princeton, N.J.) waiting on the
doorstep. Herr took a couple quick shots on Beth Findley,
recollecting the loose rebounds, and finally slid the puck in for
the 1-0 lead after several more Bantams joined her in front of the
net.
The teams played a scoreless middle period, before Colleen
Finnerty connected with a cross-ice pass from Ariana Bourque to
even the score at 1-1 just 3:33 into the third. The tandem paired
up again on the game-winning goal in the final five minutes, as
both teams had four skaters on the ice. Switching sides, it was
Finnerty who dished from the left to Bourque on the right doorstep
for the 2-1 lead. Findley had 27 saves and senior Kristen
Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) had 17 for the Bantams.
