Box Score Northampton, Mass. - Junior midfielder Caroline Hayes
(Greenfield, N.H.) had three goals and three assists to lead the
Trinity College Bantams to a 13-10 victory over the Williams
College Ephs in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Smith College.
Trinity, ranked No. 2 in the nation, improves to 2-0 overall and in
the NESCAC, while Williams falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the
league.
At the end of tight first half in which neither team led by more
than two goals, Trinity trailed, 7-5. Becca McGovern gained an
initial lead for the Ephs less than two minutes into the contest
and Rebecca Bell put in a second goal moments later. Nine
minutes into the contest, senior tri-captain Kathleen Timmons
(Branford, Conn.) got the Bantams on the board on a free-position
shot. Answering back, McGovern drove hard to goal, dodging past a
series of Trinity defenders to score her second unassisted goal at
the 19:23 mark to regain a two-goal lead for the Ephs.
The Bantams then took the lead with three consecutive
goals. The first was off a man-up goal by Hayes and the second off
a series of passes in front that resulted in a goal for sophomore
defender Ashley
Stewart (Dover, Mass.) from classmate Martha Griffin
(Exeter, N.H.). Trinity junior Molly Cox (Norwell,
Mass.) then scored another goal to put the Bantams ahead, 4-3,
midway through the first half. Williams scored four of the
game's next five tallies, except for the second goal of the game
for Stewart, to lead, 7-5, at the break.
Trinity roared out of halftime with five goals in a row,
including the game-tying goal from Hayes to Griffin 4:36 into the
second half and the game-winner by junior midfielder Lindsay Mullaney
(Boston, Mass.) with Trinity a man up from Hayes just 1:24
later. Trinity held a 10-7 lead when Stephanie Gallo scored
for Williams at the 15:14 mark, but Timmons found junior
attacker Renee
Olsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) on back-to-back goals less than a
minute mark to put the Bantams back ahead, 12-8, with 11:12
remaining. Williams scored twice more, sandwiched around
Hayes' third goal with 8:32 left in the game, but neither team
found the back of the net over the final six minutes.
Sophomore Emily Mooney (New York, N.Y.) made five saves to earn the
win in the Bantam goal.
