Box Score Williamstown, Mass. -Freshman Rachel Brissette scored the
game-winning goal 7:54 into the second half to lead the Williams
College Ephs to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Trinity College
Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
field hockey action this afternoon. Trinity, which scored
just once after outscoring its opposition, 15-0, in its first two
games, drops to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the NESCAC. Williams
improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Trinity pressed hard and controlled the possession of the ball
for the last part of the first half. After controlling the ball in
the circle and waiting for the right opportunity, first-year
forward Brenna Hobin (Madison, Conn.) smacked a shot across the
front of the goal to the far corner of the cage for the game's
first goal with just under 10 minutes left in the opening
stanza. Annie Van Wagenen tied it for Williams early in the
second half, and Brissette scored the clincher from Brigid Bruno
off a rebound. Nearing the last fifteen minutes of the game,
Trinity came close to tying the score but sophomore Samantha
Sandler (Madison, Conn.) caromed her penalty stroke off the right
post. Trinity finished with an 11-6 shooting advantage and
junior Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.) had a pair of
saves.
