Box Score Williamstown, Mass. – The visiting Trinity College Bantams
suffered a 5-0 setback against the No. 9-ranked Williams College
Ephs in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
women's soccer action this afternoon at Cole Field.
Trinity, ranked No. 9 in New England, falls to 2-2 overall and 0-2
in the NESCAC, while the Ephs, also ranked No. 1 in New England,
improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the league while avenging a 2-0
loss at Trinity I the regular season a year ago. Trinity
hosts Wheaton (Mass.), ranked No. 7 in New England, in its next
game on Wednesday, September 17 at 4:30 p.m.
Trinity had the first legitimate chance just over 20 minutes
into the contest when senior forward Karyn Barrett (Cape
Elizabeth, Maine) took a corner short to sophomore forward
Laura Nee (Duxbury, Mass.), who dribbled a few
yards down the touchline before sliding the ball back to Barrett at
the top-right side of the box. Barrett's left-footed
effort skimmed off the top of the crossbar and out of play,
however. The Bantams managed nine shots in the opening 45
minutes, but fell behind, 2-0, at the break thanks to first-half
Eph goals by Danielle Sim and Hanna Kaeser.
Williams which also took nine shots in the first half, doubled
the Bantam total in the second half, 12-6, and scored three more
times before the final whistle. Barrett took eight of
Trinity's shot, while junior goalkeeper Monica
DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) made four saves for the
Bantams. Sim and Natasha Albaneze both recorded a goal and an
assist for the Ephs, while Hannah Van Wetter had three stops in the
Williams goal.
