Trinity Women's Soccer Loses At Williams

Box Score

Williamstown, Mass. – The visiting Trinity College Bantams suffered a 5-0 setback against the No. 9-ranked Williams College Ephs in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon at Cole Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 9 in New England, falls to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the NESCAC, while the Ephs, also ranked No. 1 in New England, improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the league while avenging a 2-0 loss at Trinity I the regular season a year ago.  Trinity hosts Wheaton (Mass.), ranked No. 7 in New England, in its next game on Wednesday, September 17 at 4:30 p.m.

Trinity had the first legitimate chance just over 20 minutes into the contest when senior forward Karyn Barrett (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) took a corner short to sophomore forward Laura Nee (Duxbury, Mass.), who dribbled a few yards down the touchline before sliding the ball back to Barrett at the top-right side of the box.  Barrett's left-footed effort skimmed off the top of the crossbar and out of play, however.  The Bantams managed nine shots in the opening 45 minutes, but fell behind, 2-0, at the break thanks to first-half Eph goals by Danielle Sim and Hanna Kaeser.

Williams which also took nine shots in the first half, doubled the Bantam total in the second half, 12-6, and scored three more times before the final whistle.  Barrett took eight of Trinity's shot, while junior goalkeeper Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) made four saves for the Bantams.  Sim and Natasha Albaneze both recorded a goal and an assist for the Ephs, while Hannah Van Wetter had three stops in the Williams goal.
