Box Score Hartford, Conn. – The visiting Bates College women's soccer team erased an 1-0 halftime deficit to rally and net a 2-1 come-from-behind overtime victory against Trinity on Saturday afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action at Campus Field. With the defeat, the Bantams fall to 4-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in league play, while the Bobcats improved to 6-2-0 on the year and 3-2-0 in conference tilts.
Just under five minutes into overtime, Bates senior forward Dakota Donovan scored an unassisted goal for the game winner and the third straight victory for the Bobcats.
Trinity junior goalkeeper Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) played well in net turning aside four shots in a losing effort. On the opposite end, Bates first-year netminder Sarah McCarthy made seven saves, highlighted by several point blank stops in the first half, to earn her second career win.
Senior midfielder Karyn Barrett (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) opened the scoring and gave Trinity an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 28th minute. Sophomore forward Laura Nee (Duxbury, Mass.) played a ball into the box and Barrett corralled it, turned and fired a shot past McCarthy into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Barrett's tally was her fourth of the season and would be the only score in the opening half as Trinity headed into the break with a one-goal advantage.
A little over six and a half minutes into the second half, Bates would tie the game at one as sophomore Erin Shea scored on a header. The Bobcats played the ball into the box and after a deflection Shea knocked the ball past DiFiori. Shea's tally would be the only in the second half despite both teams having quality chances.
The Bantams held a 23-14 advantage in shots and took 10 corners, while Bates attempted just one corner kick.
Trinity returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 4, traveling to Maine for a NESCAC showdown with Bowdoin. The contest gets underway at 12:00 p.m. as the Bantams look to avenge a 3-0 setback versus the Polar Bears in 2013.
