Box Score Babson Park, Mass. - First-year Kelcie Finn (Weymouth,
Mass.) scored three times and the visiting Trinity College Bantams
built a four-goal halftime edge on its way to defeating Babson
College Beavers, 6-3, in field hockey action this afternoon at
MacDowell Field. With its fourth straight win, Trinity is now
6-2 overall, while Babson, which entered the day having won three
consecutive games, drops to 6-4 on the year.
First-year
Brenna Hobin (Madison, Conn.) also scored twice for
the Bantams, while senior
Sophie Doering (Darien, Conn.) had a goal
and led all players with three assists. Senior Caroline
Malone (Walpole, Mass.), junior Melanie
Jordan (Westford, Mass.), and sophomore Megan
Jones (Essex, Conn.) each scored once for the Beavers.
Finn opened the scoring just 6:13 into the match, and then
knocked home a rebound in front of the cage for her second tally of
the day at the 14:26 mark to give Trinity a 2-0 lead. Hobin
extended the lead with back-to-back goals of her own, twice
redirecting shots from Doering following penalty corners just 3:36
apart to give the Bantams a 4-0 lead with 10:28 remaining in the
opening stanza.
Jones cut the Babson deficit to 4-1 with her third goal in the
last two games just over seven minutes into the second half. After
carry the ball down the left side, she ripped a shot from along the
end line that snuck inside the far post. Finn answered right back
for Trinity though, completing her hat trick just 70 seconds later
by converting another feed from Doering to regain a four-goal
edge.
The Beavers responded with consecutive tallies from Jordan and
Malone to get back within two. Following Malone's insert on a
penalty corner, Jordan received a pass from sophomore Victoria
Spofford (Merrimac, Mass.) and beat Bantams' first-year
goalkeeper
Gianna Pileggi (Malvern, Pa.) from the left wing to to
make it 5-2 at the 54:41 mark. Malone then notched her team-leading
sixth marker of the year just 4:10 later, beating a defender and
then making a move around Pileggi before depositing into the empty
cage. Doering capped the scoring with her third goal of the
year, driving home a blast off a penalty corner insert from junior
Elizabeth Caporale (Glastonbury, Conn.) with 2:59 remaining.
Beavers' junior goalkeeper Kayla Costa (Watertown,
Mass.) finished with 10 saves, seven of which came in the first

(Duxbury, Mass.) did not have to make a stop over the first 35
minutes to earn her sixth win of the year before giving way to
Pileggi, who finished with four second-half saves. The
Bantams held a 27-8 edge in shots and a 19-5 edge in penalty
corners.
