Box Score Clinton, N.Y. – The No. 3 Trinity College men's hockey team erupted for erupted for six goals en route to a 6-1 victory versus Hamilton on Saturday afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action at Russell Sage Rink. With the win, the Bantams improve to 15-2-1 overall and 10-1-1 in league play, while the Continentals drop to 7-7-4 on the year and 5-5-2 in conference tilts.
The high powered Trinity offense tallied six or more goals for the seventh time this season. Junior forward Elie Vered (Ottawa, Ontario) and senior tri-captain Jackson Brewer (Newton, Mass.) each registered three points to lead the Bantams offensive charge. Vered recorded his second multi-goal game of the season and added an assist, while Brewer potted his fifth marker of the year to go along with two helpers. Four other Bantam skaters registered multi-point contests as senior tri-captain Michael Flynn (Cheshire, Conn.) and first-year forward Tyler Whitney (Wakefield, Mass.) both picked up two assists apiece, while junior forward Michael Hawkrigg (Toronto, Ontario) and first-year forward Anthony Sabitsky (Sicklerville, N.J.) both scored a goal and added an assist, respectively.
Between the pipes, junior netminder Nathaniel Heilbron (West Vancouver, British Columbia) turned aside 18 shots to earn his 11th victory of the season for the Bantams. On the opposite end, Hamilton goaltenders Zach Arnold and Tim Nowacki combined to make 55 saves. Arnold made the start and stopped 41 shots in a losing effort and Nowacki made 14 saves in relief.
Brewer potted the lone tally in the first period to give the visitors a 1-0 edge heading into the first intermission. In the second period, Trinity erupted for three goals to hold a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes thanks to a pair of goals from Vered. In the final stanza, Hamilton pulled within three as Robbie Murden scored his 11th goal of the year just under 12 minutes in. Down the stretch, Trinity put the game away as Hawkrigg and Sabitsky found the back of the net.
The Bantams held a commanding 61-19 advantage in shots and converted on two of their three power-play opportunities. On special teams, the Continentals went 1-for-4 with the extra skater.
Trinity returns to action next weekend, Feb. 6-7, with its final conference road weekend of the regular season. The Bantams will take on Middlebury on Friday night before squaring off Williams in a Saturday afternoon matinee. Trinity defeated both the Panthers and the Ephs earlier this season in Hartford.
