Box Score Williamstown, Mass. – The Trinity College women's hockey team scored a trio of second period goals en route to a 6-3 victory versus Williams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action inside Lansing Chapman Rink. The Bantams scored six or more goals for the second straight game to win their fifth in a row as they improved to 6-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference action. The host Ephs dropped their second consecutive NESCAC game to fall to 4-5-0 on the year and 1-2-0 in league play.
Three Trinity skaters provided the offense for the visitors as junior forward Cheeky Herr (Princeton, N.J.), senior tri-captain Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) and first-year forward Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) all scored two goals apiece. Herr also added a pair of assists for a season-high four points, while junior Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.), junior Shannon Farrell (Kennebunk, Maine) and senior tri-captain Lauren Fitzgerald (Milton, Mass.) all recorded two assists as well.
Williams opened the scoring just over three minutes into play as Emily Krueger knocked a rebound past Trinity sophomore netminder Claudia Escue (Carbondale, Colo.). The visitors responded three minutes later as Herr beat Ephs goaltender Margaret Draper. Later in the first, the hosts took a 2-1 advantage thanks to a tally from Chelsey Stevenson.
The Bantams rallied from their one-goal deficit and blew the contest open in the second with three unanswered goals. Herr, Robinson and Finn each potted markers for the visitors with Finn's goal with under a minute left in the period proving to be the game winner.
In the final stanza, Trinity held off a comeback attempt by Williams thanks to a pair of goals.
Escue turned aside 21 shots to earn her third victory of the season for Trinity, while two goaltenders combined to make 19 saves for Williams.
The Bantams held a slight 25-24 advantage in shots, while neither team was able to capitalize on their power-play opportunities. Williams went 0-for-5 with the extra skater and Trinity wasn't successful on either of their two chances.
Trinity concludes the weekend series with Williams tomorrow, Jan. 10, with puckdrop scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
