Box Score Hartford, Conn. - Freshman Caroline McKenna (Sandwich, Mass.) scored her second game winning goal this week to push the Trinity College women's soccer team past New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponent Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon in front of a big crowd on Alumnae Day in Hartford. Trinity improves to 8-2 overall, 4-2 in conference, and pushes ahead of Amherst for 2nd place in the NESCAC. The loss drops Bowdoin to 5-3-1 overall and 3-3 in NESCAC action.
It was Bowdoin who dominated the first half offensively, tallying 12 shots, nine of which were on goal, compared to just one from the Bantams. Senior goalie and tri-captain Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) stopped nine Polar Bear shots on goal in the first half and finished the game with 11 total saves.
Trinity had a much better second half on offense sending 10 shots towards the net however with the teams locked in a back and forth battle, overtime seemed likely. As the the game entered the 81st minute, Trinity struck twine as Kendra Lena (Madison, Conn.) sent a ball into the box and McKenna buried it into the back of the net to give the Bantams a 1-0 lead with little time remaining.

Bowdoin had one last chance with less than a minute left, after a Trinity turnover allowed the Polar Bears to streak down the field with an advantage in numbers, however an outstanding defensive play by sophomore defensive back Sarah Connors (Winnetka, Ill.) in which she stole the ball from the Polar Bear player and cleared it back up field crushed any hope of an equalizer for Bowdoin, and the Bantams held on to win a hard fought 1-0 conference game.
Trinity returns to action next Wednesday, Oct. 14, as they travel down the road to take on Eastern Connecticut State. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
