Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Junior forward Cheeky Herr (Princeton, N.J.) scored her team's only goal and first-year Sydney Belinskas (Port Orange, Fla.) made 30 saves between the pipes to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 1-1 stalemate against the visiting and No. 6-ranked Amherst College Lord Jeffs this evening in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity moves to 12-6-2 overall 5-6-2 in the NESCAC, while Amherst is now 15-2-4 overall and 9-1-3 in the league. The teams, which tied, 2-2, in their last meeting at Amherst one day less than one year ago, will complete this two-game series in Hartford tomorrow at 4 p.m.
With less than a minute remaining in the opening period, Trinity junior defender Shelby Labe (Pine Brook, N.J.) started the scoring play with a pass ahead to classmate Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.) who advanced the puck up the right side before leaving it behind on the wing for Herr whose wrist shot from that spot eluded Amherst backstop Yuma Evans (East Haven, Conn.) with 41 seconds remaining. Belinskas kept Amherst at bay for the opening stanza, making nine stops including a key glove save against Lord Jeff junior forward Eileen Harris (Winnetka, Ill.) early in the frame.
Amherst tied it with a power-play goal 1:55 into the second period by rookie forward Alex Toupal (New Brighton, Minn.), assisted by sophomore blue-liner Lynndy Smith (Glendale, Ariz.) but the scoring ended there. Evans made eight saves in the second period and 11 in the third, before diving to her left to stop Tani's point-blank bid early in overtime on the lone Bantam shot of the extra frame to finish with 29. Belinskas was unscored upon with 20 saves for the last 43 minutes of the contest, as the Bantams killed off two more Amherst power plays in the second period. Neither team was penalized after the second intermission, and the Lord Jeffs were whistled just once in the game.
