Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Junior midfielder Martha Griffin
(Exeter, N.H.) scored five goals and assisted on a sixth tally to
lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 12-6 snow-shortened victory
over the visiting Springfield College Pride in women's
lacrosse action this afternoon on Sheppard Field. Trinity,
ranked No. 9 nationally, improves to 1-1, winning its home opener
and giving Katy Dissinger her first win as a collegiate head
coach. Springfield falls to 2-1. The game was called
after 48 minutes of play due to heavy snow and wind.
Trinity never trailed, as sophomore Karly Simpson (South Hadley,
Mass.) scored on a free-position shot 8:30 into the game and
Griffin fed junior attacker Abby McQuillan (Medfield, Mass.) for a
score from close almost four minutes later. Springfield
senior midfielder Michelle Dorsey (Wilbraham, Mass.) sandwiched an
assist on the first Pride goal by junior attacker Bianca Raniolo
(Yorktown, N.Y.) and her own tally on a free- position around a
Bantam goal by senior tri-captain midfielder Caroline Hayes (Green,
N.H.) to make the score, 3-2, in Trinity's favor, but the
Bantams rattled off five goals in a row in less than 10 minutes
including two by Simpson to complete her hat trick. Griffin
scored the last two goals of the first half and the first two of
the second stanza for a 12-3 Bantams advantage before Dorsey scored
twice more and junior Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) scored once
in the final 5:05 before the game was called complete by the
officials.
Hayes joined Griffin and Simpson as a multiple-point scorer with
two goals and one assist, while sophomore defender Lara Guida
(Mendham, N.J.) had three ground balls, two draw controls, and two
caused turnovers for the Bantams. Dorsey had three goals and
one assist to go with three draw controls, and junior defender
Olivia Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) added three caused turnovers for
Springfield. Trinity junior Emily Mooney (New York, N.Y.) and
first-year Zoe Ferguson (Ridgewood, N.J.) combined for five saves,
while Gabriella Anderson (Mahopac, N.Y.) made 11 stops for the
Pride in goal.
