Box Score Northfield, Vt. - Sophomore forward Anthony Sabitsky (Sicklerville, N.J.) netted two goals to propel the No. 8 ranked Trinity College Men's Hockey team to a 4-3 victory over the Manhattanville Valiants in the opening game of the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament hosted by Norwich University. The win moves Trinity to 6-2-1 on the season while Manhattanville falls to 7-4-1 overall.
The Bantams put the first five shots on goal of the afternoon, finally taking a 1-0 lead thanks to a strong wrist-shot from Sabitsky 3:29 into the first frame. Trinity outshot the Valiants 14-11 in the first period, however Manhattanville tied things up 14:12 into the period thanks to a goal from freshman Tyler Feaver (Whitby, Ontario).
The second period saw Trinity sophomore goalie Alex Morin (St. Hubert, Quebec) make several saves, however Manhattanville junior Phil Dinner (Dallas, Texas) snuck the puck by Morin with less than five minutes in the period to give the Valiants their first lead of the day. It would not last though, as Trinity junior defenseman T.J. Sherman (Chesterfield, Mo.) cleaned up the puck during a scrum in front of the net to tie things back up at two goals a piece.
During the third period, Trinity cashed in on its third power play chance of the game, with Sabitsky potting his second goal of the game to give the Bantams a 3-2 lead 5:10 into the final frame. Manhattanville had one last chance after Trinity was whistled for tripping with 70 seconds left and the Valiants sent Feaver to the bench for the two-man advantage but they did not register a shot and Bantam freshman forward Ross Mandigo (Stowe, Vt.) iced the game with an empty-netter. Nolan Marshall (Drumheller, Alberta) snuck the puck past Morin, however with only a second remaining, not enough for a comeback.
Morin finished the day with 20 saves while Feaver turned away 30 Trinity shots. Trinity outshot Manhattanville 34-23 and was also credited with 23 blocked shots. The Bantams will move on to the tournament championship game tomorrow at 5 p.m., where they will take on the winner of tonight's game between host Norwich and Wesleyan University.
