Offensive Onslaught Propels Women's Soccer Past Bobcats

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College women's soccer team used four goals from four different players on Saturday as the Bantams knocked off the Bates College Bobcats, 4-0, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action on Saturday. Trinity improves to 5-1-2 overall and 3-1-0 in league play while Bates falls to 2-6-1 on the year and 0-5-1 in conference games.

Trinity scored its first goal of the game in the 25th minute in the first half as senior tri-captain Kendra Lena (Madison, Conn.) served up a corner kick that fellow senior tri-captain Sheena Landy (Durham, Conn.) headed to junior defender Sarah Connors (Winnetka, Ill.) in front of the net who then re-directed the ball past Bates goalie Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) for her second goal of the season. Trinity extended the lead to 2-0 just seven minutes later when sophomore Taylor Kirchgessner (Southampton, N.Y.) found a streaking first-year Grace Chalmers (Irvine, Calif.) who controlled the pass, dribbled around McCarthy, and chipped the ball into the back of the net for her first goal in a Trinity uniform.

The Bantams struck again on a beautiful goal from senior Nicole Stauffer (Cheshire, Conn.) who scored on a nifty pass from senior tri-captain Laura Nee (Duxbury, Mass.) to give the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead with just under 30 minutes to play in the game. Chalmers later assisted junior Tori Dunn (Washington, D.C.) at the 80:47 mark for Dunn's first goal of the season to seal the 4-0 victory for Trinity.

Trinity outshot the Bobcats, 24-7, and earned eight corner kicks on the afternoon compared to just one for Bates. Bantam junior goalie Julia Pitino (Littleton, Colo.) earned her fifth win and fourth shutout of the year as she stopped both Bobcat shots that came on goal. McCarthy finished the game with nine saves for Bates after facing 12 shots on goal from Trinity.

The Bantams return to action on Wednesday, October 5, as they travel down the road to conference rival Wesleyan for a 4 p.m. matchup.
