Men's Hockey Thumps Connecticut College For First Win of Season

Box Score

New London, Conn. - The No. 7 ranked Trinity College men's hockey team used goals from four different players as they cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Connecticut College Camels on Saturday afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's hockey action in New London. The win is Trinity's first of the new season after falling to Tufts last night as they improve to 1-1 overall.

Trinity junior goaltender Alex Morin (St. Hubert, Quebec) made 22 saves on the afternoon with his lone blemish coming at the 14:45 mark in the first period on a goal by Jeff Thompson (Shelburne, Vt.). A few minutes later the Camels were whistled for a cross-checking penalty which led to a score by Bantam senior forward Ryan Cole (Anchorage, Ak.) to tie the game at 1-1. Freshmen Liam Feeney (Foxboro, Mass.) and Charlie Zuccarini (Shelton, Conn.) were credited with the assists on Cole's goal for their first career points in a Trinity uniform.

The second period saw seven combined penalties by both teams but no scoring, that was until the 19:22 mark when Cole fed junior Tyler Whitney (Wakefield, Mass.) who fired a shot past Camel goalie Tim Cooney (Rocky Hill, Conn.) to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

Freshman Barclay Gammill (New Canaan, Conn.) potted his first career goal just six minutes into the third frame on Cole's second assists of the game to extend Trinity's lead to three. Trinity's blue liners, led by senior captain Sam Johnson (Dallas, Texas) and senior T.J. Sherman (Chesterfield, Mo.), played tough in front of Morin, minimizing the Camels' scoring chances all day. Sophomore forward Ryan Pfeffer (Canton, Mass.) iced the game with less than five minutes to play with his first goal of the year off an assist from Sherman to send Trinity home with the 4-1 win.

The Bantams return to action Tuesday, November 22, when they host Post College in the home opener at the Koeppel Center at Williams Community rink. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
