Trinity Women's Ice Hockey Extends Unbeaten Streak To Seven Games With Win At Williams

Box Score

Williamstown, Mass. — Senior forward Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.) had the game-winning goal and two assists to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 4-2 victory over the Williams College Ephs in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening at Lansing Chapman Rink.  Trinity improves to 10-7-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the NESCAC after an 0-6 start in league tilts while extending its unbeaten streak to seven games and its winning streak to four.  The Ephs lose for the third game in a row, dropping to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in the conference.  The teams will complete the two-game series in Williamstown tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Williams nearly took the lead early on a power play, but Trinity sophomore goalie Sydney Belinskas (Port Orange, Fla.), who had entered the game with a four-game shutout streak, denied Eph junior Hanna Beattie on a top-shelf bid.  Belinskas came up with 14 of her 31 saves in the opening stanza to keep the game scoreless and extend her stretch of scoreless play to 266 minutes.  Trinity broke the silence 2:14 into the second period when sophomore Caroline Howell (Lyme, N.H.) scored off a low shot from Tani and sophomore Tasha Adams (Reston, Va.).  Tani fed Adams for a second Bantam goal during a 4-on-4 situation at the 6:52 mark.  Williams went on the power play for the last five minutes of play in the second frame, but could not capitalize.

Tani struck again 7:21 into the final stanza with power-play goal from sophomore Delaney Harrop (Walpole, Mass.) that gave the visitors a 3-0 lead. Michaela Levine scored Williams unassisetd 1:16 later, ending Belinskas' streak at 294 minutes without yielding a goal, and the Ephs had two more power-play chances over the next seven minutes but came up empty.  Williams pulled goalie Christina Cleroux early but the strategy backfired when the Bantams stole the puck and senior forward Cheeky Herr (Princeton, N.J.) fired in an empty-netter.  Levine assisted Sara Lehman on a late Eph tally but the home team could get no closer.  Cleroux finished with 29 saves, as the Ephs held a slight shooting edge, 33-29.
