Box Score Clermont, Fla. - The Trinity College women's lacrosse team scored three goals within the first two minutes of the game and did not look back as the Bantams drubbed the Endicott Gulls, 19-3, in the team's final game in Florida. Trinity rebounded from a loss earlier this week to No. 7 ranked Salisbury and improves to 5-1 on the year while Endicott falls to 0-5.
Trinity established control of the game right out of the gates as junior Karly Simpson (South Hadley, Mass.) scored twice within the first 1:13 of the first half to give the Bantams an early 2-0 advantage. Senior co-captain Martha Griffin (Exeter, N.H.) found the back of the net 42 seconds later to make it a 3-0 game and the scoring did not stop there. The Bantams took a 13-1 lead into the half thanks to three goals from Simpson, two from junior Clare Lyne (Concord, Mass.), two from junior Emma Malicki (Loudonville, N.Y.), and single goals scored by Griffin, sophomore Georgia Mergner (West Caldwell, N.J.), freshman Jennifer Cook (Manhasset, N.Y.), sophomore Grace O'Donnell (Yarmouth, Maine), freshman Mary French (Gloucester, Mass.), and sophomore Abby McInerney (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).
Endicott ended the shutout at the 10:24 mark in the half on a goal from freshman Jackie Neilsen (Agawam, Mass.), despite the Trinity defense holding the Gulls to just seven shots on goal in the entire game. Senior co-captain Ashely Stewart (Dover, Mass.) paced the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls in the rout.
French scored twice more in the second half as she finished with three goals, tied for a team high with Simspon and Malicki. Freshmen Emily Carothers (Kenilworth, Ill.), Julia Macchi (Hopkinton, Mass.), and Caroline McKenna (Sandwich, Mass.) added scores in the second half, all career firsts, for the Bantams as the team cruised to victory.
Endicott's Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) scored twice in the second half to go along with two caused turnovers, two draw controls, and three ground balls on the day.
Trinity senior Emily Mooney (New York, N.Y.) earned the win in goal, stopping three of the four shots she faced, all free position shots, while sophomore Caroline Cranley (Summit, N.J.) took over for Mooney in the second half for her first career appearance in net.
Trinity returns home, after going 1-1 in the Sunshine State this week, where they play host to Bates on Saturday in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup scheduled for 12 noon at Robin Sheppard Field.
