Box Score Hartford, Conn. - After a scoreless regulation, Hamilton senior Katja Dunlap (Arlington, Mass.) found the back of the net, 4:14 into the extra session, to give the Hamilton College Continentals a 1-0 victory over the Trinity College Bantams on Saturday morning in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action in Hartford. Hamilton improves to 2-2 overall and 1-2 league play while the Bantams fall to 1-3 on the year and 0-2 in conference action.
Both teams finished the day with ten shots each although it was Trinity that earned five corners compared to zero by the visitors. Senior Emily Dumont (North Andover, Mass.) finished with five saves between the pipes for the Continentals while her counterpart, Trinity senior Julia Pitino (Littleton, Mass.) finished the day with four saves.
Hamilton managed two shots on net in the first half, both of which were turned aside by Pitino. The first came early in the match, a ball from Cat Gambino (Westbury, N.Y.) at the 7:27 mark, that Pitino kept in front of her to preserve the scoreless tie. The Bantams rattled off three-straight shots on goal, all within three minutes of one another, the first coming at the 21:19 mark off the foot of senior Alexa Barbaresi (Newport Beach, Calif.). Dumont kept the ball out of the back of the net though, as both teams entered the break knotted at 0-0.
Trinity rookie Samantha March (Glastonbury, Conn.) missed giving the hosts the lead when she sent a shot towards the net that sailed just high at the 52:39 mark. Junior Shannon Kennedy (Hartford, Conn.) also had a good look at goal, just 10-minutes later, but Dumont was there to shut the door once again. Gambino and Barbaresi put shots on net late in a last ditch effort to break the tie, but neither tries were successful.
Dunlop won the game for the Continentals after controlling a loose ball at the top corner of Trinity's goal box, and firing a shot from distance over the outstretched arm of Pitino and into the top corner of the net.
