Four Different Scorers Help Propel Men's Ice Hockey Over Colby

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College men's ice hockey program picked up its fourth-straight NESCAC victory Saturday afternoon, using four goals in the final two periods to upend Colby 4-1 on the road. The Bantams (16-5-1, 10-4-1 NESCAC) saw four different goal-scorers, with senior Barclay Gammill (New Cannan, Conn.) scoring his seventh goal in the last three games.

Sophomore netminder Jonah Capriotti (Mount Hope, Ontario) picked up his third straight win between the pipes, making 26 saves in the win. The Bantams outshot Colby (7-11-3, 3-10-2 NESCAC) 32-28 on the afternoon, but trailed 1-0 into the second period.

Midway through the first frame, the Mules capitalized on a Bantam mistake. Trying to clear the puck from behind the net, the attempted pass out of the zone took a bad bounce off the boards; Colby's Jacob Thousand was there, and was able to feed Paddy Daley, who found the net to take the lead.

After skating the remaining 12 minutes of the first period without a tally, the Bantams tied things up early in the second period. Just over four minutes into the frame, senior Barclay Gammill (New Cannan, Conn.) netted his fourth goal of the series, tucking home a shot in front of the crease on a one-time pass from junior Eric Benshadle (Buffalo, N.Y.).

Outshooting the Mules for the game's entirety, Trinity capitalized on a Colby mistake to take the lead early in the third period. A bad Colby pass inside its defensive end led to a costly turnover, as first-year Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) walked in all alone and wristed an unassisted rocket into the top-left corner to take a 2-1 lead.

Just over a minute later, Trinity extended its lead to 3-1. Once again, the Mules struggled to get the puck out of its own zone; sophomore Lucas Michaud (South Portland, Maine) collected the puck behind the net and fed sophomore Connor Sundquist (South Glastonbury, Conn.) in front of the net, whose one-timer further extended the lead.

Colby had opportunities late in the final frame, but an empty-net tally from sophomore Cole Poliziani (Burlington, Ontario) iced the game, giving the Bantams its fourth-straight NESCAC win.

Trinity Returns home next Friday, playing host to Wesleyan for the first of a home-and-home series against the Cardinals. The game will serve as Trinity's senior day, with puck-drop slated for 7 p.m.
