Box Score Hartford, Conn. - Senior forwards Ryan Cole (Anchorage, Alaska) and Sean Orlando (Ivyland, Pa.) combined for 10 points to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 12-1 win over the visiting Franklin Pierce University Ravens in men's ice hockey action at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 13 nationally, improves to 3-1, while the Ravens drop to 6-3 with its first loss in six games.
Trinity sophomore forward Mark Knowlton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored just 1:12 into the game with the assists credited to senior forward Ethan Holdaway (Glastonbury, Conn.). Franklin Pierce tied the score, taking advantage of consecutive Trinity penalties and scoring 3:25 into a long power play. Raven freshman forward Kyle Gosselin (Haverhill, Mass.) scored on a rebound after a save by Bantam rookie netminder Ted Loughborough (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) against Raven rookie forward James Morrissey (West Haven, Conn.).
Cole scored unassisted on the first Bantam power play of the afternoon and first-year forward Adam Anderson (Hugo, Minn.) added a goal moments later to give the home team a 3-1 lead with 7:06 left in the opening stanza. Junior forward Tyler Whitney (Wakefield, Mass.) tacked on a fourth goal for Trinity with just under three minites left in the first frame, and classmate Bradley Buvinow (Sicklerville, N.J.) scored at the 1:24-mark to give the Bantams a 5-1 lead the first break.
Trinity scored five more times in the second period, giving the Bantams five goals in each of their last three periods of play dating back to the final frame of Tuesday night's a 14-0 win over Post on Tuesday. Orlando scored twice in the middle period and one in the third to finish with a hat trick plus two assists, while Cole scored twice and assisted on three more tallies. The Bantams had seven multiple-point scorers in the contest, including junior forward Anthony Sabitsky (Sicklerville, N.J.) with a goal and three helpers and Whitney with a goal and two assists.
Franklin Pierce goalies Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) and Austin Christopher (Winthrop, Maine) combined for 47 saves, while Loughborugh improved to 2-0 with seven stops and Bantam sophomore Matthew Millendorf (Stamford, Conn.) added four saves in relief. Trinity outshot the Ravens, 59-19, and took advantage of 11 Franklin Pierce penalties for 25 minutes by converting on seven of 13 power plays. The Ravens were 1-for-7 with the extra skater and the Bantams had eight penalties for 16 minutes.
